Aujourd'hui Hep Stars est sûrement plus connu pour la participation (au clavier) d'un certain Benny Andersson... un des membres d'Abba! Pourtant les Hep Stars était dans les années 60 un des groupes les plus populaires de beat de Suède, avec les Tages, Shanes ou Ola and the Janglers... Soyons clair, de tous ces groupes les Tages sont au dessus de la mêlé, avec des originaux top-niveaux, des autres on dira qu'ils ont leur moment, oscillant entre chansons cucu-la-praline et bons morceaux. Du coté des Hep Stars, le défaut majeur, c'est que leur premiers singles sont tous des reprises! mais il faut reconnaître qu'ils s'en sortent très bien, c'est pas du gros son mod bien énnervé mais juste de la bonne beat éxécutée comme il faut et avec quelques solos d'orgue bien sentis. De leur période beat on retiendra des covers très honorables de "cadillac" (de notre rock n rolleur à moitié nationnal Vince Taylor mais popularisé en Europe par les Shamrocks il me semble) bad headed woman (aussi interprété par les Who et les néerlandais Jay-jays) ou encore so mystifying (original des Kinks aussi repris par les Jay-jays)...Pour ma part j'ai choisi la très chouette "should i" avec son solo d'orgue et sa jolie pochette.
Maybe today the Hep Stars are best known because of the participation of Benny Andersson in the band (keyboards, latter in Abba!) but in the 60s they were one of the most popular beat band in Sweden among the Tages, the Shanes or Ola and the Janglers! If the Tages are the best one of them by far, because of top-notch original material, the others had got also good moments. During their beat period the Hep Stars did good cover of foreign hit, with their own sound, it includes "cadillac" (original by the most french english guy Vince Taylor!) or so mystifying (original by the Kinks). Among those covers, Should I is a fine beat tune with a cool organ solo, nice stuff.écouter / listen to "should i" (1966)
