Donovan - season of the witch (1966)

Donovan est un chanteur anglais de folk tirant très souvent sur la pop ou la musique psychédélique ce qui n'est pas pour me déplaire, je pense que la plupart de nos lecteurs reconnaitrons au moins l'air d'un de ses tubes, que ce soit le folky "catch the wind", le jazzy "mellow yellow" ou le psyché "sunshine superman"... Parlons justement un peu de cette dernière chanson, titre phare de l'album du même nom (sorti en 1966), on trouve également sur ce même disque un autre standard - légèrement moins connu - de Donovan, le superbe "season of the witch", presque 5 minutes autour d'une guitare, et une pointe d'orgue! En 1967 Julie Driscoll accompagnée de Brian Auger et son groupe the Trinity, en font une reprise bluesy lanscinante centrée sur la voix de Djools et l'orgue hammond d'Auger, le moins que l'on puisse dire c'est que c'est très réussi, tout autant que l'original...ne pouvant me décider à n'en choisir qu'une, voici les deux!

Donovan is a very known 60s british singer, mainly of "folk" but with a pop / psych / jazz touch, his most-known songs are "catch the wind" "mellow yellow" or "sunshine superman", on the same lp of that last tune, you'll find another Donovan's classic, the awesome "season of the witch", wich was also covered with a lot of talent by Julie Driscoll, Brian Auger and the Trinity, a years later (1967), two great versions of the same tune, today on RPUT!
