? and the mysterians - 96 tears (1966)

? (Question Mark) and the Mysterians sont un groupe de garage rock américain du Michigan, pas loin de Detroit. En 1966 ils ont un énorme tube aux Etats Unis avec le classique 96 tears et son riff tout simple mais terrible d'orgue "italien", ils sont ainsi un des premiers groupes latinos à avoir du succès même si ce n'est qu'un "one hit wonder", ceci dit le reste se défend très bien. D'après la légende ils ont choisi de signer avec le label cameo à cause de la couleur du label (orange) la préférée de Question Mark, à long terme ce choix n'a pas forcément été payant, car les ayants droits du catalogue ont bloqué pendant très longtemps les rééditions (2006 en fait je crois), ce qui explique l'absence de cet immense classique sur la mythique compilation Nuggets, parfois ça ne tient à pas grand chose hein?

? and the Mysterians were a michigan garage band. In 1966 their tune 96 tears was a big hit in the United States, one of the first done by latino artists. They choose the cameo label because of the colour of the logo (orange) wich was Question Mark favorite, but not sure it was a so good idea, the owners of the producing rights never done reeditions of the band stuffs during years so they were not included and the Nuggets, a shame for this true garage classic! Indeed since one or two years an anthologie of ? and the mysterians with the original recording is available!
