Jimmy Smith - the cat (1964)

Jimmy Smith est probablement l'un des meilleurs jazzmen du monde en matière d'orgue, une référence absolue. Son jeux bien que technique est surtout terriblement groovy et accrocheur, il sait faire des morceaux accessibles avec une sensibilité pop, comme par exemple sur ce très bon album de 1964 intitulé the cat pour le label Verve. Avec l'aide de l'argentin et légendaire Lalo Schifrin (qui a entre autre composé la BO de Dirty Harry, Bullit et de la série Mission Impossible!) aux arrangements, il propose un disque instrumental gorgé de groove et d'arrangement à la couleur big band qui balance à mort!
