Donny Hathaway - thank you Master (for my soul) (1970)

Donny Hathaway est une des grandes voix de la soul 70's. Ayant une culture musicale classique impressionnante il ne découvre la pop music qu'au milieu des années 60. En 1970 avec la sortie de ce premier album en solo, il est déjà un musicien accompli, ayant notamment participé aux arrangements de the Impressions (le groupe de Curtis Mayfield), mais on y découvre aussi une voix fabuleuse, touchée par la grâce absolue. Les arrangements sont sobres, avec quelques cuivres, du piano électrique (je vote pour un Wurlitzer) et acoustique, ils forment un écrin pour les chansons (il y a deux reprises de Nina Simone et Ray Charles) et la voix de Donny. Thank you Master (for my soul) est emprunt d'une ferveur religieuse qui prend aux trippes et retourne tout sur son passage, du très grand.

Donny Hathaway is one of the most beautifull voice of the seventies soul. Before 1964 he was into classical music, studied it, and known nothing about pop music, but in the second part of the 60's he worked a lot with great artists as the Impressions. In 1970 he released his first solo album and the world discovered a wondereful voice, and great songs, among others Thank you Master (for my soul) just amazing.
